“Storytelling runs across cultures and across generations. The better a story teller a singer can be, the more engaged your audience becomes. A good story teller uses the text, physical gesture, and dynamics, much the same way a singer should. I want young singers to be better story tellers!”

by Stuart B. Holt, past Director of Learning and Engagement of the Metropolitan Opera Guild and current ArtsFairfax President & CEO

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Dr. Jennifer M Coleman
Founder of Singer Actor Fusion

Jennifer M. Coleman D.M.A. is the founder of Singer Actor Fusion. She is a voice teacher, author, director, performer, and mentor. Jennifer is a native of Napa, California, where she grew up singing musical theatre. Jennifer is trained in the Stella Adler method of acting. As a managed singer, Jennifer lived in New York while traveling internationally to perform with companies such as the New York City Opera, Nashville Opera, Bayerische Zwei-Groschen-Oper, and Monterey County Symphony to name a few.  She has worked with the Vanderbilt Voice Center helping singers rehabilitate their voices and mentors a group of talented singing teachers.

As an opera singer, Jennifer has been described by critics as “having vocal power, and something to spare,” her performances as “affecting and eloquent,” and “she is proof that it is not only important to have a powerful voice in the opera, but that it is also needed to have a good amount of acting talent.” Jennifer has the unique ability to sing a variety of roles and embody many diverse characters.

Jennifer enjoys teaching healthy technique to a full private studio of gifted singers in classical, musical theatre, and commercial genres. She has successfully costume designed shows ranging from Die Klüge to Trouble in Tahiti to The Tender Land. Some favorite opera directing credits include Gallantry and A Hand of Bridge. She has worked as a stage director, performed background vocals at churches nationwide, and is a session singer in Nashville recording studios. She is also an avid reader, particularly dealing with vocal pedagogy and vocology (the science of the voice).

Dr. Coleman earned her Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois where she studied and performed with world famous vocal coach and collaborative pianist John Wustman. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Kentucky, where she studied with Dr. Everett McCorvey and renowned Metropolitan Opera soprano Gail Robinson. Many of her students are singing, directing, and teaching throughout the country.
